Adding Value

Being in a committed relationship can be a wonderful experience. The course of relationships can be undulating, working through and understanding each others values and beliefs is core to a great partnership. Relationships work best when each person is equally committed and are similarly aligned in various aspects of their lives. Adding value to the relationship is important as it improves and enhances the experience.

So what is meant by adding value.

Firstly, look inwards at yourself, can forming this relationship make “me” a better person, what attributes and beliefs are important to you? what standards do you adhere too when making choices?. What are your boundaries? Are you respectful, kind and considerate? What strengths and weaknesses do you bring to the relationship? Do you care and love yourself? Once you have established what values you have to offer.

Then look to assist your partner to better themselves, maybe help them look at situations from a different perspective. Show compassion and empathy, improve communication, be open and honest.

And then conjointly, really listening to each other, working on and through issues together, and respecting each other’s opinions, values and beliefs. Show each other through acts of kindness, small gestures and communication that you are totally committed to one another.

Forming and building a relationship involves investment of time as well as emotions, it can be a hard road to tread, but with patience and resilience that path can be smooth. The importance of seeking a partner who adds value to your life is essential for a healthy happy relationship.

But sometimes adding value is not reciprocated or obtainable from another, if you feel this maybe the case, be objective, analyse what it is you seek in a relationship. If you conclude it is depleted of a fundamental element then move forward with your life and don’t invest more of your valuable time and effort in that relationship.
